 Moving further back in time from the fifteenth century Thaxted guild Hall, just down the road is reputedly the world's oldest wooden church. Sections of Greensted church's timber work are ninth century making it the oldest standing wooden building in Europe. The twelth century crusader's grave by the porch adds further to the sense of history.
